A Bitmoji classroom is an online space that mimics a real-life physical classroom. You can add in fun pictures and posters as well as a Bitmoji (human emoji representation of yourself) to help your students feel more connected. To create my virtual classroom, I used Buncee which provides you with many different templates for any type of interactive online space. First, choose a background and brainstorm about what you want to include in your virtual space. Then, you can drag in different elements such as tables, books, or plants. You can also link different websites and pages to elements in your classroom so that students can click on various items and find resources to help them.
The Danielson Framework for teaching emphasizes the importance of creating a positive environment for learning. A colorful and organized virtual classroom can help teachers establish a culture for learning (2b) and engage students in learning (3c) by providing a more interactive and fun way for students to find content and resources. It can engage students because the classroom environment is much more welcoming than a regular presentation, yet it still emphasizes the importance of learning and reviewing learned material. It can also help educators communicate with students (3a) because you can write the daily agenda on the "board." This allows students to catch a glimpse of what they will learn that day and what is expected of them.
I can definitely see myself using this tool as an educator. An interactive classroom is very helpful for online learning because it can help give students a sense of familiarity even if they are learning from home. Personally, I would use the tool to welcome students to class and let them know what the agenda is for the day/class. However, Bitmoji classrooms can also be used alongside in-person learning. You can link extra videos, worksheets, or articles that can help students if they are struggling with a certain concept. Then, students are getting the in-person instruction as well as a reinforcement online if they need it. It can also help students who are absent for the day get a general sense of what the class learned that day. I am especially looking forward to using my online classroom to welcome students to class and link fun games for students to play and review material.
