Digital assessments are extremely helpful for students to have fun while learning or assessing what they know. To create my digital assessment, I used Quizizz which allows teachers to create a fun quiz for students to participate in. There are options to create your own quiz or explore the quizzes that other people have created. If you choose to create your own quiz, you can use multiple choice questions, open ended responses, fill-in-the-blanks, or even polls! You can add in a title picture and decide what grade level and subject your assessment is geared towards. If you make your quiz live, anyone can access it and use it for their own classroom! You can also create classes and assign your quiz to a specific class. One of the coolest features of Quizizz, however, is the live quiz option in which students can enter a code and gain access to your quiz. Then, students can compete against each other in real time, making it exciting and fun!
Quizizz can help teachers meet standards in the Danielson framework for teaching. It helps meet domain 1f and 3d: Designing Student Assessments and Using Assessment in Instruction. This tool is great for formative assessment because after students take a quiz, statistics are provided to the teacher on which questions were harder for students and which ones were easier. Then, teachers can go back and make sure to review the information that most students got wrong. Teachers can also use Quizizz to provide new information in a fun way. Students can enjoy the game while simultaneously getting an introduction to concepts that will be learned in the future which may help them to better remember the information. This tool also can help meet standard 3c which focuses on engaging students in learning. The game-like aspect of Quizizz can help students have fun while learning, and the competitive aspect may help motivate students to study more. While educators do have the option to set the quiz as a formal assessment to be graded, the general format of the tool is more relaxed and fun which can take some of the "testing" pressure off of students and help them focus more on the content rather than the grade itself.
Not only does Quizizz meet the standards in the Danielson Framework, but it also helps meet the ISTE standards for students. For example, it can help students become empowered learners by challenging them to use the piece of technology to support their own learning process. Students can work at their own pace and see the correct answers immediately after taking the quiz. This helps students gain an understanding of what they do and do not know so they can more effectively study. Additionally, this tool aligns with the 4 C's for teaching. Students can use Quizizz to create their own assessments, demonstrating their ability to be creative with the information and communicate pieces of information to other students in question form (which also aligns with the ISTE standard "Creative Communicator!" Students are also challenged to use critical thinking both to answer questions and to create questions that make sense/ are in a form best suited for the information. Finally, students can show collaboration by either creating a quiz with a partner or answering questions with a partner. If students work in groups to complete a quiz, they will be challenged to work together to answer the questions quickly and utilize each others strengths.
I definitely will use Quizizz or similar platforms in my classroom. One thing that I found slightly confusing/ distracting were all of the powerup options. During the live quiz, there were messages telling me to buy powerups, but I did not know how they worked. I will have to explore those a little bit more before using the tool in my own class. However, I love the concept of digital assessments to help students have fun while still learning. It also can help me get a good idea of what my students are struggling with since the program automatically provides the educator with statistics on the quiz answers. I especially love that there are options for students to work at their own pace. It helps students become more aware of their own strengths and what questions/ information they may need to work on.
