I used Google Forms to create a digital assessment for my Co-op. Google forms can be used for a variety of different activities such as a quick check-in to see how your students are doing, surveys to get to know your students, or assessments to reinforce and test students on what they have learned. You can choose to create questions in many different formats such as multiple choice, short answer, dropdown, or a checkbox grid. There are options to add in pictures or videos to help students who may need visuals. In my Google forms, I created a math scavenger hunt for students to fill out while they are out home. I used a variety of different question and answer formats such as short answer, dropdown choices, or multiple choice grids. I also added pictures to some of the questions to help remind students of certain concepts or help low readers connect the words with the pictures.
I can use Google Forms in my classroom for a get-to-know-you at the beginning of the year. It is an easy way to check in on your students before you even meet them in person! It will also help me keep all of my students' answers in one place so that I can maintain organization. I can also use the tool to do a weekly check-in on students. I can ask about how a student is doing both at home and at school or just give fun questions to get to know them more individually. Additionally, I can use google forms to give students practice quizzes. One of my favorite things on Google Forms is the option to add in different sections to your form and link the sections to specific questions or answers. This is extremely helpful because if a student gives a certain answer to a question, you can redirect them to either a new set of questions or content based upon that answer. This helps personalize the form and give each individual student questions tailored specifically for them or content that can help them in the specific area that they are struggling.
Google Forms can help teachers follow the Danielson Framework for Teaching by allowing teachers to get to know their students (1B). By using Google forms at the beginning of the year, teachers can get some background information on students. The short answer or essay question format can be used to get a sense of a student's personality as well as their writing abilities/style very early on. Teachers can also use it to check in on students at the end of the day or on the weekend by asking students to rate how they feel about a lesson on a scale of 1-5. Digital forms can also help with designing student assessments/ using assessment in instruction (1F and 3D). Educators can use the form to create short quizzes to be used as formative assessments or for a grade. Google Forms has an option to auto-grade questions that are objective. The teacher can review the subjective answers or the entire submitted form to gauge whether or not material needs to be reviewed.
